CCEDC's Environment Program staff work to educate youth of all ages about the environment and provide them with opportunities to  get outside to have fun in nature, and undertake hands-on activities to improve the environment in their own backyard.

We work on the following projects throughout the year:

  • Partnering with the Dutchess County 4-H Outdoor Education Clubs;
  • Organizing an annual event as part of the DEC's annual "Snapshot Day along the Hudson River," to take elementary youth out to conduct water quality sampling along the Hudson River;
  • Partnerhsing with the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies on various projects;
  • Working with local municipalities to offer environmental educational events at various summer recreation programs;
  • Organizing regular GPS scavenger hunts for youth at various community events;
  • Partnering with the Lower Hudson Valley Coalition of SWCD's annual Envirothon for high-school students;
  • Working with local colleges and universities to offer internships with the Environment Program.
