Soup for Greens Fundraiser for Program that Fights Food Insecurity in Beacon

Join us Sunday, February 12 at the Beacon Farmers’ Market, for a fundraiser supporting Greens for Greens, a Beacon program that ensures people struggling with food insecurity get access to quality local produce.

The Soup for Greens Fundraiser will feature a variety of soups (including vegetarian and vegan options). Each soup costs $10 in a disposable bowl or $25 in a handmade ceramic bowl. All proceeds go to the 2017 Greens for Greens program, which helps families on federal food aid double their spending on fresh fruits and vegetables at the Beacon Farmers’ Market and mobile markets.

Help us put fresh produce on the table for low-income families, make the market more affordable for all Beacon residents, and put more dollars into the pockets of our local farmers. The Soup for Greens Fundraiser will be held 10 am - 2 pm on Sunday, February 12 at the VFW, located at 413 Main Street in Beacon.

The mission of the Beacon Farmers’ Market is to feed and engage the Beacon community, support local farms and businesses, and create a more just food system.

Green Teen Community Gardening Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension in Dutchess County empowers urban youth to be effective community change-agents by immersing them in the local food system. This youth development program teaches life and work skills through hands-on experiences in farming and gardening, health and nutrition, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Common Greens, a partnership between Common Ground Farm and Green Teen, is a mobile farmers market bringing reduced-price, fresh and local produce to low-income neighborhoods in Beacon throughout the summer. 

Fee

Each soup costs $10 in a disposable bowl or $25 in a handmade ceramic bowl.
