Managing the Invasive Swede Midge

  • Friday, March 6, 2026, 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Swede midge is an invasive fly that causes serious economic losses to brassica crops. Due to its small size and hidden feeding habits, swede midge is often called an “invisible pest” and damage may be misdiagnosed.

Topics include:

  • Swede midge life cycle
  • Crop damage symptoms
  • Current management recommendations
  • New research findings
  • On-farm case studies (focused on organic management)

In partnership with the Cornell Vegetable Program and UVM.

NYSDEC Pesticide Recertification Credits: 1.75 in categories 1A, 10, and 23
