The Dutchess County 4-H Model Horse Show gives youth the opportunity to showcase their model horses through halter, performance, and specialty classes. Exhibitors can demonstrate their knowledge of horse breeds, disciplines, tack, and presentation while having fun with fellow model horse enthusiasts.
Model Horse Show entries are made through the Fair entry system and are separate from Exhibit Hall Model Animal entries. Models entered in the Model Horse Show may not also be entered in the Model Animals Department.
Halter classes are judged on the model horse's conformation, breed correctness, and overall quality. No tack is permitted. Documentation is optional but may be helpful for uncommon breeds.
English Performance classes are judged on the realism and accuracy of the scene. Tack should be appropriate for the discipline being shown. Documentation is recommended for unusual disciplines or complex setups.
Western Performance classes are judged on tack fit, discipline accuracy, and overall presentation. Props may be used when appropriate to the discipline.
These classes encourage creativity and presentation skills and may include costumes, themed displays, or detailed scenes. Judging focuses on creativity, accuracy, and overall presentation.
Classes include:
Exhibitors may enter a themed group of 3–5 model horses. At least three models in the herd should have been shown in another class. Judging focuses on theme, presentation, and overall cohesiveness.
Cloverbuds may participate in halter, performance, and fun classes. Cloverbuds receive feedback and encouragement while developing their model horse knowledge and showmanship skills.
