Conservation Advisory Commissions (CACs) are local advisory bodies that can be established by the legislative body of a city, town or village to advise in the development, management and protection of its natural resources.
The New York State Association of Conservation Commissions (NYSACC), established in 1971 by the Department of Environmental Conservation, is an independent, not-for-profit educational organization providing leadership in the development of vital environmental programs for cities, towns, and villages throughout New York State. NYSACC brings together government officials, environmentalists, students, and citizens who are committed to protecting, preserving and enhancing the natural and built environmental of New York State communities. Their website has more information on the organization and its work, how to establish a CAC, as well as information on the annual joint Conference on the Environment with the NYS Association of Environmental Management Councils (NYSAEMC).
The NYSDEC also has information on how a CAC can become a Conservation Advisory Board - and what that designation means.
